LBJ Performs Remaining Work on new TEXpress Lanes Before Weekend Opening

It will be a productive night along LBJ’s westbound general purpose lanes between Coit and the Dallas North Tollway. The weather has improved sufficiently  for crews to safely perform remaining construction operations before this Saturday’s Phase 1 opening.

In addition to the traffic switch scheduled for tonight between Preston and the DNT, LBJ will be doing putting final touches on the electrical wiring for the tolling systems before its upcoming public debut.

Work will begin at the same time as the traffic switch previously announced, on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 8 pm, and will last until 6 am the following morning.

The westbound general purpose lanes between Coit and Preston will be detoured to the frontage road during this time. Traffic will be directed to take the westbound exit to Park Central/Hillcrest, travel the frontage road and re-enter the main lanes via the entrance ramp from Hillcrest.

Message boards and signs will be placed along the roadway to advise motorists of all closures and detours.  All closures are subject to scheduling and weather conditions and will be postponed, if necessary.

With Phase 1 scheduled to open next week, LBJ Express is holding an open house on Thursday, Dec 12, from 4 PM to 7 PM at Park Central Building 9 (12790 Merit Drive, 7th Floor). The event will be another chance for the public learn about the new LBJ TEXpress Lanes.

Phase 1 of the LBJ Express from  Preston Road to Greenville Avenue will be completed and open to traffic on Saturday, Dec 14. In that 3-mile stretch, drivers will be able to try out the new TEXpress managed toll lanes or enjoy the rebuilt highway lanes and access roads.
