LBJ Performs Early Closure This Weekend at the I-635/I-35E Interchange to Accommodate Weather Changes; Plus Major Lane Changes on Midway Begin Monday

Dallas  – In spite of the unpredictable weather and its effect on the schedule, LBJ Express construction crews have continued to push forward and make as much progress as possible during the tricky winter season. However, with temperatures dropping below freezing most nights, the window of opportunity to perform concrete and asphalt work is small. As a result, the LBJ Express team is scheduling a rare change in the construction schedule this weekend.

While major lane closures typically begin after 8 pm, this Saturday, February 8, LBJ Express crews will begin work at 5 pm, closing the direct connector from westbound I-635 to southbound I-35E in order to pour concrete for one of the highway bridge caps at the I-635/I-35E interchange. Traffic will be restored to normal by 2 am on Sunday, February 9.

Detour: To access southbound I-35E, westbound I-635 traffic will be directed to exit at Luna Rd., U-Turn onto eastbound I-635, and take the exit to southbound I-35E.

Elsewhere along the project, a  significant lane shift at Midway Road under I-635 will take place early next week, to facilitate in the building of the future TEXpress managed toll lanes in this area, as well as to begin reconstruction of the intersection itself.

Beginning Monday, February 10th, both northbound and southbound lanes at  Midway will be shifted to the east.  Additionally, the northbound lanes will be reduced to two lanes, the southbound lanes will be reduced to three lanes, and the westbound frontage road approaching the intersection will be reduced to three lanes.

This shifted and reduced lane configuration at Midway will last until November 2014.

Signage and traffic controls will be in place to safely direct drivers throughout the duration of this shift.
