What’s Next for the LBJ Express Construction Over the DNT?

The LBJ Express Team has reduced lanes on LBJ Freeway over the Dallas North Tollway (DNT) and the first phase of demolition over the DNT has been completed, so what’s next?

The reconstruction of LBJ Freeway over the DNT will occur in 4-Phases:

PHASE 1:The first phase of the process has already been completed with the demolition of the outside lanes.

Demolition of LBJ Express bridges over the DNT

PHASE 2: The next phase is to reconstruct those outside, general purpose, lanes of LBJ Freeway, and the 6-step processof construction of the bridges over the DNT for the new outside lanes has already begun!

Phase 2: Westbound Reconstruction Area

Once the outside lanes have been entirely reconstructed, general purpose lane traffic will shift outward to those newly constructed bridges. At this point, the entrance and exit loops connecting LBJ Freeway and the DNT will be reconstructed and open. This will allow the through lanes of LBJ Freeway to be restored back to 4 lanes in each direction.

PHASE 3: The traffic shift to the exterior new bridges will allow space for the third phase of demolishing the inside current general purpose lanes of LBJ Freeway over the DNT to allow for Phase 4.

PHASE 4: The last phase will consist of constructing the middle, managed-toll, lanes over the DNT.

Stay tuned for more updates on the LBJ Express over the Dallas North Tollway as construction progresses!
