Preston Road Bridge Demolition

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND:

Thursday night, November 15th: Switch northbound and southbound Preston Road traffic to the newly constructed half of the bridge.

STEP 1: 9pm Nov 16th – Noon Nov 17th

  • Eastbound LBJ reduced down to 1 lane under Preston Road

  • The eastbound LBJ exit ramp to Hillcrest Road closed

Preston Bridge Demo Step 2

 STEP 2: Noon Nov 17th - 7pm Nov 17th

  • 2 right lanes closed on eastbound LBJ under Preston Road

  • The eastbound LBJ exit ramp to Hillcrest Road closed

Step 3: 7pm Nov 17th – Noon Nov 18th

  • The westbound LBJ exit ramp to Montfort Drive closed

  • The westbound LBJ entrance ramp from Hillcrest Road closed

Major Construction Planned over the Dallas North Tollway, Labor Day Weekend!

Traffic Configuration — Step 1

The LBJ Express Project will be performing bridge demolition on the I-635 auxiliary lanes that run over the Dallas North Tollway this weekend! The demolition will occur in 5 Steps with each step representing a designated area of demolition. (Areas of demolition shown in the map as a red box with lines through it). The four loops will be closed for the duration of this work over the weekend.

STEP 1

The first phase of demolition will occur over the southbound Dallas North Tollway lanes. For safety purposes the DNT SB will be directed to exit at Alpha Road and detour through the Inwood box over LBJ. Additionally, 1 through lane will be open on NB DNT.  Step 1 traffic control will be implemented at 9pm on Friday night and the demolition of the outer bridges will begin at 10pm.  The configuration shown to the right will be in place until approximately 12pm on Saturday.

Closures in STEP 1:

  • DNT SB to IH 635 EB and DNT SB traffic will be directed to exit at Alpha Road and detoured through the Inwood Box.
  • DNT SB to IH 635 WB will continue south and use the direct connector to go West.
  • DNT NB to IH 635 WB will be detoured through the Inwood box.
  • DNT NB to IH 635 EB will use the direct connector to go East.
  • Spring Valley access ramp onto DNT SB will be closed.

STEP 2 

Traffic Configuration — Step 2

Step 2 will begin at approximately 12pm on Saturday and go until 9pm.  During this time the very outer portions of the bridge will be demolished over DNT SB.  There will be 1 lane open on the DNT SB with some traffic being detoured onto the Inwood box.  All 3 DNT lanes open in the NB direction.

Closures in STEP 2:

  • DNT SB to IH 635 EB will be directed to exit at Alpha Road and detoured through the Inwood Box.
  • DNT NB to IH 635 WB will be detoured through the Inwood Box.
  • DNT SB to IH 635 WB will continue South and use the direct connector to go West.
  • Spring Valley access ramp onto DNT SB will be closed.

Traffic Configuration — Step 3

STEP 3

After completing the demolition for the I-635 bridges over the DNT SB demolition will move to the NB side.  The shift will occur at approximately 9pm on Saturday night and will last until 12pm on Sunday.  1 lane will be open on the DNT SB and traffic on DNT NB traffic will be detoured through the Inwood box.

Closures in STEP 3:

  • DNT SB to IH 635 EB will be directed to exit at Alpha Road and detoured through the Inwood Box.
  • DNT SB to IH 635 WB will continue south and use the direct connector to go West.
  • DNT NB to IH 635 WB and DNT NB will be detoured through the Inwood Box.
  • DNT NB to IH 635 EB will use the direct connector to go East.
  • Spring Valley access ramp onto DNT SB will be closed.

STEP 4

Traffic Configuration — Step 4

Step 4 will begin at approximately 12pm on Sunday and last until 9pm.  All 3 lanes of traffic will be open on the DNT SB and 1 lane will be open NB but will be shifted to the left.  Other NB traffic can use the Inwood box.

Closures in STEP 4:

  • DNT SB to IH 635 WB will continue south and use the direct connector to go West.
  • DNT SB to IH 635 EB will be detoured through the Inwood Box.
  • DNT NB to IH 635 EB will use the direct connector to go East.
  • DNT North to West LBJ use Alpha/Galleria exit.

STEP 5

Once the  exterior portions of the bridge have been removed the center must be demolished.  This will be the final step of the weekend.  It will begin at approximately 9pm on Sunday and go until 9am on Monday morning.

Closures in STEP 5:

  • DNT SB to IH 635 EB will be directed to exit at Alpha Road and detoured through the Inwood Box.
  • DNT NB to IH 635 WB will be detoured through the Inwood Box.
  • DNT SB to IH 635 WB will continue South and use the direct connector to go West.
  • DNT NB to IH 635 EB will use the direct connector to go East.

Once all demolition work is completed and the area is clean traffic will reopen to full capacity on the Dallas North Tollway.

FUTURE LOOK OF THE HIGHWAY

Many of you probably see all of this work happening and wonder what the highway in this area will look like after its completed.  Below is a rendering of the final product.

To sum it up:  

  • Construction begins Friday at 10pm and ends on Monday at 9am.  

  • Please plan your routes ahead of time and expect traffic delays.

  • Don’t text and drive.

  • Stay alert of signage and reduce traffic speeds.
